Why AI answers about your brand can change over time

The same question can produce different answers. Learn how to interpret a changing result without treating one observation as the whole picture.

Karavix Team·Updated

In a simple test at Karavix, we asked ChatGPT the same question a few hours apart. Nothing had changed on the brand's side. The answer, however, could change.

For a company trying to understand its AI visibility, that creates an important distinction between what happened in one answer and what can be concluded about its broader presence.

Why the same question can produce a different answer

Generative AI systems do not always return identical wording or identical selections of businesses. A different answer does not necessarily mean your website changed or a new competitor appeared.

When web search is available and used, the sources retrieved can also affect the response. Training knowledge, retrieved information and the context of the conversation can contribute to what a user sees. The mix depends on the system and how it is being used.

What an absent mention actually tells you

If your brand does not appear in a particular sample, that is a real observation about that sample. It does not establish that your business is absent from every AI answer.

The same care applies to a positive result. Appearing once is useful to know, but it does not establish a stable presence across customer needs or future answers.

A measurement should retain its context: the question, the engine and the observation date. A response that could not be obtained should remain an unknown rather than being treated as a confirmed absence.

Follow the change over time

At Karavix, we use Vix as a readable reference point for AI visibility. The answers and the scope of the assessment give that reference point its meaning.

The business value comes from understanding what the observations support, where uncertainty remains and whether a useful action follows. A changing answer is a reason to investigate the pattern over time.
